You have heard the joke about the software engineer being sent to the grocery store right? I pulled this version from a random google result:

A wife asks her husband, a software engineer, “Could you please go shopping for me and buy one carton of milk, and if they have eggs, get 6!”

A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk.

The wife asks him, “Why the hell did you buy 6 cartons of milk?”

He replied, “They had eggs.”

You need better testers Bungie (reply)

Thanks for telling me this! I just received two of them and will buy the perk in one but not the other and check the differences out. They say if you buy the hive disruptor the white nail is only deactivated on hive units but works with any other enemies.

In the case of a vehicle recall, they already have a solution.
In the case of a dangerous item recall, you voluntarily give it back to the company.

The first scenario is exactly what Bungie will do, they will issue a "recall" (update) when they have a fix. For the second case you are welcome to put Destiny down if you notice a bug and it scares you.

Personally, I'd rather they release some of this stuff with these sorts of really minor bugs, than to give me nothing and spend more time finding and fixing.

Software Devs are the new recall specialists (reply)

I can fully imagine that Bungie knew this existed, knew the fix would be tedious, so they shipped it instead of delaying the update by a month.

I guess these days releasing a patch is like evaluating a recall for an airbag. Except nobody dies while Bungie tries to figure out how to patch, or if they should.

What exactly is that? (reply)

I know what a "professional tester" is, or quality engineer as most like to be called. But what does it mean to be a beta tester professionally?

I'm just a regular own desktop software engineer, where the question of input, output, and state are difficult to test completely, but do-able. The combinations that a game like Destiny has is near infinite.

This board also seems to mistake "knowing a bug exists" with "Fixing a bug that exists". Knowing a problem is not the same as knowing a solution, which is especially not the same as knowing the RIGHT solution.

I can fully imagine that Bungie knew this existed, knew the fix would be tedious, so they shipped it instead of delaying the update by a month.

I used to be a professional beta tester (reply)

On top of that is the atrocious approach to user interface. Slick at first blush, but so full of poor decisions like forcing players to orbit before selecting where to go next

A network engineer on reddit posted regarding this, and his conjecture was that this was to reduce congestion on the network. If you started off in the tower, or went straight to the tower from a destination, it would clog stuff up.
