Yes. I had this thought myself a week or two ago, and then just a few days ago someone else I was in a game with said the same thing. Seems to be on a lot of people's minds. I wouldn't be surprised if they do it eventually. They have to know a lot of us are accumulating amounts much higher than what we'll ever use for upgrades. And personally, I could use any alternate methods possible for getting crucible marks. I'm just not a crucible person, but that means I miss out on some potentially useful gear right now (excluding random drops).

After accumulating hundreds of hadronic essence I'm probably never going to use on my Warlock, I kind of feel like there should be an option to exchange them with an NPC for something like faction rep or legendary materials, ie. 100 essence/wire/plasteel for 1 ascendant shard.
Thoughts?

This is a brilliant idea. My Warlock is currently sitting on 247 Weapon Parts and 546(!) Hadronic Essence. I'm at the point where I'm wondering if I should stop picking up green engrams since I don't know what to do with this stuff now. If I could convert them into Ascendant materials, though… well, that would change things considerably.

I actually thought my second character would go way faster than the first (and it did up until 22) but it turns out you don't earn nearly as much Hadronic Essence and Weapon Parts when you don't have to find your first legendaries/exotics.
