Or at least it wasn't when I played the Daily with a friend yesterday.

Right, I was confused by this. I never picked up a blue engram during the mission but had one in my inventory afterward.

So I just did the daily story. It said that I would get a "Cryptarch Engram." As far as I could tell, I only get the Ascendant Shard (as per usual for lvl 24 daily.)

Any ideas?>

Not sure, I got a Cryptarch engram at the end, it was even legendary. Only boots, but still.
