I think you're missing one very important aspect of what a hood can protect you from -- being seen/recognized. One of the main reasons I will be rolling Hunter primarily is the stealthy theme. Even with a helmet on, a hood can help you seem more mysterious and unrecognizable. I personally don't think a hood over a helmet looks silly, but I also have no issue with the fact that you do -- so I guess having that option would be cool.

Logical arguments aside, I have an opinion, and no one has to like it, but is there really no one here that agrees with me about how it looks? What about having an option for it?

I do agree with the bit about in the tower. I would like to be able to have my hood up in the tower.

I was going to say this before: for all the fun and harmlessness of the trailer, I still think helmet plus hood looks dumb and is dumb, whether it's Halo or Destiny or some other game or real life.

Capes are fine, capes are great. I'm fine with having a hood, it could be great on its own. Having a hood won't protect you from anything but the sun and maybe the rain so it's completely superfluous with a helmet.
I can get behind redundancy, even, my Spartan in Reach had two knives because screw you I'm going to stab people. This isn't over-the-top redundancy like that, it's just mundane, pointless redundancy.
I really, really don't like that a hood and cape have to go together, and I really don't like that the hood and the helmet have to go together so you can't have the hood on in the Tower. I don't like the look plus you can't properly display your helmet that way and you don't get to have the hood-only look either.
It should be viable to just have the hood, we're strong, capable, armored fighters who can be resurrected at the drop of a hat (and may or may not have shields, going by competitive multiplayer). I could really get into the hooded look, but it's not properly available.
I hope against hope that we'll get some option to turn the hood on and off, or that the hood will only appear in the Tower when we don't have a helmet, because otherwise I'll only ever equip capes when I'm going to be in the Tower for while because I don't want to look like a complete idiot, and that would take away from one of my favorite things about being a Hunter (and there are very few things about being a Hunter that aren't my favorites).

Seriously though, I was thinking the same thing when I looked the lyrics up. That lyrics to that song have the same kind of deeper meaning that I expect to come from Bungie normally - even if Bungie didn't actually choose it or create the commercial themselves.
