Here is the whole 5 minutes prior to our escape. You can see I know that I need to go up so I just choose a tunnel that goes higher, but it actually ends up taking me away from the drop pod. Since I don't know where to go and I'm the digger class I decide to just start digging to the drop pod and hope that I can make it. But when I run out of fuel for the drills I know I'll never be able to tunnel all the way to the drop pod on my own so I ask someone if they can start tunneling towards me in the hopes that might save me!

The funny thing about all of this is I usually know exactly where I am on a map, but in the caves it can be easy to get lost (plus the drop pod doesn't return to the same location it dropped you off at so you aren't just backtracking). Usually I'm the first one to reach the drop pod, but this time everyone else made it while I got lost. :P

The overly-dramatic jump into the pod at about T+1 after the last second was Malagate. Also present: Dame117, Blackt1g3r, and myself.

What you can't see in my video is the reason for the close finish. Blackt1g3r had gotten separated from the rest of us, for reasons I don't remember, and at some point it became apparent that there simply wasn't enough time for him to locate AND traverse the path the rest of us had taken through the caverns. So he and Malagate just started digging, DIRECTLY toward each other. It was a crazy last-ditch maneuver and we were all pretty certain it wouldn't work. Its success, and the timing of said success, couldn't possibly have been more dramatic.

Things like that happen all the time in this game.

Kermit, sorry I didn't get to play with you last night! Didn't mean to throw the group numbers off like that when we all grouped up earlier. Hope you still got some good mining in.

No worries. You and Blacktiger had signed up and I'd personally invited Malagate, so it's all good. I may not be able to play the next few nights, but maybe over the weekend.

Or 20 minutes if you're me. I had a good time. I have a bit of a spider phobia that kicks into high gear when spiders are bigger than dogs and make noises, but the art style went a long way toward keeping me from wigging out.

Technically, I didn't actually make the purchase yet, I was in a hurry to get to bed after I exited the game. But I will. And yes, definitely planning on playing tonight.

I happened to see a couple other DBO folks playing it when I started up my XBox Tuesday night, so I used my hour trial and played with them.

My mic is supposed to arrive on Saturday, so I'll get the trail downloaded and hopefully be able to jump in some matches with folks this weekend or next week. Watching your stream isn't really selling me on the game, though, I must admit. Maybe playing it is a lot more fun that it looks on a stream.

Being the digger class probably isn’t the ideal class to play in a stream, but I had plenty of fun, especially when the action ramps up.
That escape sequence though, was pure Helldivers at its best, so it’s definitely worth a purchase if you’ve got a group of friends to get into it, and you don’t have Helldivers.
